How can I cut choppy layers in my hair?

My hair is a little past the shoulders %26amp; straight across, and I want to cut choppy layers into it. How can I cut layers myself? I don't want to go to a salon, so don't suggest it.

Hey, I cut my own hair too :)

It's actually very simple.

Just brush your hair out, cut the parts you need to cut in a upwards way, so you cut upwards inorder for it to look decent.

If you don't like it, you can always style it back to the way it was.

But don't cut it to short.
