okay. the only way to lift the brown out of your hair is to bleach it. "normal" people shouldn't bleach their hair at home more than one-two shades. so having lighter hair is a good thing for you.

get a bleaching kit, not blonde hair dye, because that isn't going to lift the color out of your hair. I don't bleach my own hair often so I'm not sure the best brands. Try going to Sally's and asking them.

if your hair has any red tones in it at all you're going to have to get some toner, also.

so go home and bleach the section that you want blonde and then deep condition it, cause bleach is harsh. ask yourself if it is as light as you want, if not bleach it again in a week (or maybe 3 days if you're impatient .. but condition it a LOT).

once it's as light as you want, you want to get rid of all the oranginess/brassiness. so tone it. and deep condition it again. keep toning until it's the pretty blonde shade you desire. and i can't stress this enough: CONDITION CONDITION CONDITION.

if you want your hair to be funky and modern, dye only the bottom layer, like you were going to. i was going to dye mine red, because i heard that you could dye your hair with kool-aid. it actually worked, but it wasn't as red as i wanted it to be. =/

First off I wouold suggest going to a salon, reason being when it comes to something like this duotoned hair, I think a pro is yourbest bet. She or he will be able to determine if you natural is too dark, and they may need to ble ac h underneath first so the blonde will set the right way.

I actually have thought about getting the very same thing done. My mother is a colorist and stylist so I try to listen and watch but some times it can be very frustrating to understand completley.

Bottom line I think it's great that you want to experiment with your hair, just do some research like yahoo search for hair coloring tips. When it comes to darkier natural hair colors there are certain things that may need to be done in order to make sure that your color of choice is going to set right especially blondes.

i would not get anything too heavy. don't ask for the chunky highlights, get the finer ones. its hard to say without seeing you , as far as color goes , but i would think that you have a couple of options . option 1 would be to add some caramel / gold / dark blond highlights to your hair. nothing too heavy at first though because it will need to be touched up more often. the other option would be to add a burgundy sort of shade as highlights. again, i would consult with a hairdresser and get a partial highlight job rather than the full one to start out with to make sure you like it. you normally highlight hair quarterly and keep it trimmmed so it looks nice. you will need to use conditioner and you will be fine. i would keep your length, but maybe ask for a few long layers. i do not think that it will damage your hair but the negative thing is that you have to maintain it and it is time consuming and expensive. if you have a pretty natural color and nice virgin hair , maybe you would be satisfied with a new hairstyle and leave the highlighting go ? if your hair is very long, and you find you do not like the highlights it will take quite a while to grown them out to get it all back to its all natural state , complete virgin hair again. think about it and decide what YOU think is best for YOU . i would not make the decision based on my friends pushing you into something you are not ready for . good luck to you / hope you love the highlights if you decide to get them / or enjoy a new hairstyle if you decide to wait to get them later on in life when you can't avoid it anymore (gray). lol :-)

Try a color that doesnt contrast too much with your natural hair color first to see how it goes with you. That way, if it causes too much damage, or if you dont like it, you can let it grow out. Otherwise you will have to go through another procedure to remove it, or color your hair with your natural hair color to cover it.

There will be some damage if youre highlighting, but not as much as you would get if you were to color your whole head of hair regularly.

I did the same thing to my OWN hair! Yikes! I did get a trim but of course you can't cut off all the damage. At the salon I bought some leave in conditioner the stylist recommended.( I used it after I washed and conditioned with my regular conditioner and shampoo.) Then I used Frizz Ez conditioner on just the ends and didn't rinse it out. I blew it dry using a big round brush and then used an anti-frizz glosser (lots of it, my hair soaked it up). This seemed to hide the damage pretty well and I followed up with regular trims. The broken areas blended in but I couldn't get by without the silicone based glosser. It smoothed everything out. for your hair use olive oil conditioner and any hair conditioner that has shea butter or carrot oil in it.........TRUST me i know i had the same problem until i stared using these things and my hair was back to full volume in about two weeks

OLIVE OIL!!! put this all over your hair and wrap in a towell for like 20 min before you shower. Do this a couple times a week... use a moisturizing/damage-control shampoo and conditioner. if your hair is curly do some curly styles for a while using a miosture infused type of mousse, but don't put a straightener near your hair!! if all else fails, go to a salon and ask what the best product for repairing hair is and they will know what can help the most.

First of all ...you don't regrow broken hair. Damaged hair is gone forever. I do understand you not wanting to cut it all off at one time and that is okay.We just have to work on regrowing you some healthy hair. It will take time but it is not impossible.

1. What you may want to do is start with salon grade shampoo and conditioners for damaged hair. I am not going to recommend a certain type because I want you to go in and have someone reputable (certainly not the person that double processed your highlights) look at the condition of your hair and pick out something for your daily use.

2 Start a daily vitiamin plus biotin. Biotin is great for your hair and speeds up hair growth. Once your hair starts growing then you can SLOWLY trim off the dead parts that were damaged.

3. Drink lots of water and keep your diet clean. Everything you eat and drink becomes part of your hair. You will notice a difference in you hair and skin when you up your water intake.

Good luck - in about 6 months you will notice a great deal of improvement and this will be just a bad nightmare! Now you can tell your friends how important it is to choose a good hairstylist even if they think it is a little expensive! One bad job can cost you much more in the long run! (Not saying that was you but I hear that ALL the time )

Wow, you have really long hair. It sounds beautiful. But if you're ready for a change you should go for it! Also layers will not thin out your hair more. It will actually add some volume when you style it. If you are going for something low maintenance go for some long layers. You can curl them or leave it straight, whatever matches your mood. I would also suggest since you have so much hair to cut 12 inches off and donate it to locks of love. Which makes wigs for kids who have cancer. Make sure your hair is at least one day dirty. Soft, clean hair won't hold curl as well. Apply a mousse to your roots and blow dry (with a diffuser if you have one. This will give you all the heat but not so much air. That will help do away with frizz.) Next, either use a curling iron or hot rollers and some type of curl product (your choice depending on your hair type) My best tip is to let the curl cool completely before taking it out of the roller or if you use a curling iron, clip the curl after you release it from the iron so it stays intact until cooled. This will make your curls stay much longer. Finish with a flexible hold hairspray and finger comb through. I know this sounds like a lot of work but it's really not. I just got very discriptive!)

instead of using a curling iron, blow dry your hair after you get out of the shower and then put (forgot what they were called) curling rolls in your hair instead, dont put it up all the way to the root either only do it half way and put little amounts of hairspray in your hair when the curling rolls are in there.

Because your hair is fine you'll have to use a better product than just hairspray. Work a texturizing paste and mousse into your hair when it's damp and dry upside down so that you get some body. Instead of a curling iron, use hot rollers and leave them in for 20 mins. Instead of brushing out, use your fingers to pull the curls together. Spray well and let dry before touching again.

I have dark hair and tried to make the top layer of my hair blonde. I got the lightest blonde I could find since my hair is dark I thought it takes more to make it lighter. Anyway, the top layer of my hair is now yellow. I want a more natural blond but also very light. If I do it again, will it be lighter? What can I do to make it a real light blonde and get the yellow out? (without going to a salon) Should I redo it? If so, what product should I use? Or should I make it dark again? (I don't really wanna hurt my hair too bad with all that bleaching...) PLease help!

U can try another blonde in the very dark range but BE VERY CAREFUL... too many colors or applications back to back can cause some very nasty damage or results. I would really recommend that u call the manufacturer of the dye that u used - most of them have toll free help lines %26amp; they usually know how to offset one color, plus they can help u avoid or lessen that damage risk. If u don't still have the box from the original color, google or yahoo search them for a number or post another note %26amp; see if someone else can give u a number from a product they have on hand.

I would also recommend that you do a hot oil or protein or similiar treatment right after this to minimize damage from dryness. PS: Did u know that if u put conditioner on during the last 15 mins or so of a color it is most effective as the "pores" in your hair are open from the color?

the darker your hair is the harder it is to lighten. if it was orangey i would suggest you dye it a lighter shade for the second time. but since it is "yellow" i would suggest that you find the exact shade you want on the color box and dye it with that...usually a shade darker than the one you originally got would do the trick. don't buy a bleaching kit again...but a regular color dye. i do not suggest you go back darker because it would cause more red in your hair since you dyed it blonde. bleaching is not good for your hair at all!! so try to keep the dying down to a minimum.

Hello, I'm getting a haircut tomorrow and I cannot decide what type of haircut to get (Besides layers).

Here are some of my features:

- Tall, and thin

- My hair is: Black with medium brown highlights

- My hair is: Long and curls in somewhat at the ends (I have long bangs!)

- My face oval

- I have glasses

and if this might help a little, I am asian. Though perhaps you could recommend a more asian oriental type hairstyle, but if you think something would look better then just please suggest! (One more thing a hairstyle that has long bangs).

well, you could get a bang... whether it is a side sweep or and full front bang..

they seem to be in style right now, lol.

if you do go with the full front bang (straight across) i suggest you ask the hair dresser to do small amounts at a time so that she doesn't cut it too thick at the front.

I have long layered, highlighted hair, past my shoulder blades. It is medium thick and fine; tends dry out and go limp in humid weather (Hawaii). I love to curl it, but the curl never stays in. What products, i.e. shampoo, conditioner and treatment is recommended for this? I wish my hair would get frizzy, but no such luck.

Have you tried doing a blonde underlayer instead of highlights. It looks really great especially if you take a dark blonde color and your hair is a dark blonde. Just try coloring only the bottom layer of your hair. It has an attention-grabbing effect and looks great on almost everyone!

i have the same color hair. what i did was i bought a strieking cap. i pulled out hair out of every other hole. i bleached my hair and left some blonde, and every onther strand i died bright red. the color combination looks great.

The photobucket links didn't work =/ but I'd say you should either pull your hair into a long/low pony tail [straightened] and do a huge poof on top with your bangs and a pretty hair clip on the back or wear it down naturally but bring something to tie it up with just in case cuz one time i wore my hair down [i got it done at the salon that day] and then by the middle of the dance my hair was all poofy and sweaty and it didn't end well XDD haha yeah well best of luck mate! :D

if its healthy shiny and in good condition no. if its split (you should be getting trims every 6-8 weeks) and a mousy color or a in between one than maybe consider adding some subtle highlights a few shades lighter just to add shimmer, if its only a few shades lighter the upkeep of them wont be much and some long layers so you can keep your length.

a wide comb a plastic shower cap

directions:

3. mix conditioner, honey, and almond oil together. now, starting at the roots of your hair smooth and coat your hair evenly with the conditioner mix.

4.put your hair in the shower cap

5. let it set for 20-30 min so it soaks in

6. then rinse it all out

7. towel dry very very gently

Ha! I am a male hair stylist and all I can say is that you ask for alot. if you can get your hair the way you want it in the morning then all you have to do is find a product that will hold it. Redken products are only supposed to be available in salon but I have seen them in a large grocery store chain, ( I won't mention the name). Anyway Redken goes by a number system the higher the number the harder the hold. Depending on your climate you might be surprised to know that Concrete (one of the actual products), is probably not the best thing for you. True Red hair is usually fairly course but believe it or not something as soft as a 1-3 on the scale would probably help you if used it while you are styling.This would help deal with the frizzys and give a soft hold which your Bo would still like. This is if your hair is in good shape and you don't work on roads or live near the ocean. There is always copying Brittany's new style ha!

I've been using L'oreal Highlights Red, and intense red shampoo/conditioners.. luke warm water, nothing hot... and it still washes out by the 3rd time i wash my hair.. any advise? i was told to use regular hair dye instead of high lights ... then a few days later use the high lights/??? advise?

I agree with the permanent dye statement.....try and find a colour that is close to what you want but obviously in a permanent hair dye (try to find a salon formulated brand instead of the average everyday hair dyes - its a better quality item!).....you can then 'refresh' the bright redness with a semi-permanent every so often if you need to - when ever you wish to be bold....and I again recommend buying a salon formulated shampoo and conditioner like the loreal tec ni art range or redken brands to keep your colour longer......both those 2 brands r fabulous and its worth spending the extra money on them as it will save you continually buying hair colours!

either that or go to a hair salon n get the colour you want n the stylist will give you ideas n tips on how to keep your colour fresh n long lasting.....its part of their job!

First off let's have moment of silence for your hair. I definitely feel your pain. If I were you, I'd just let them grow out. I wouldn't feel comfortable letting anyone cut my hair again so soon after a traumatic hair experience. It should only take a month or two to get them right. Why don't you post a picture of your "after" haircut and I can tell you what can be done to fix your hair. Without any more details or pictures, the best thing that I can say is to let them grow out. It's not wise to go to someone different to fix to fix someone else's mistake.

I think it sill looks cute, but if you don't like it, I totally know what you mean. I've been there! They ruined my hair and it didn't look anything like the picture then they tried to charge me a fortune!! So here's what I did, and it's what you should do. Don't go back to the same stylist! But go back to the place you got your hair done and talk to the manager of the place, show them the picture you showed your stylist and tell them that you're unhappy. If they're an honest place they should fix your hair for free, but make sure they use a different person. It's their responsiblity to make their customers happy and give the customers what they were looking for. Good luck!!! I really hope it works out for you!

bend over and flip all your hair over so its dangling in front of you and take gel and scruch it into you hair then spray it with hair spray for finishing touches. it wont give the amazing curls but it makes it curly and it looks really good. and even better there is so much gel and hairspray it stays all day.

When you want to wear it curly, wash and condition it and brush it with a vent brush or your fingers. Nothing fine like a comb. I use Frizz Ease curl reviver. It does wonders. After showering, I put a little defining gel (medium hold) and then spray the Frizz ease and smooth through. It curls right up. My hair is short. So it might not be as curly for long hair but. The Frizz Ease stuff is great. Also, never brush your hair after it is dry if you want to wear it curly. It just frizzes up like mad.

Also, blow dry with a diffuser and use your hands to scrunch.

1. I never use hair products with alcohol in it, as our hair tends to be naturally dry.

This probably isnt the best idea for you. It can be done, but you're going to need to see someone very expensive (think 100 bucks for the haircut alone) just to ensure it's the way you want it- and then dependingon how curly your hair is she may talk you out of it. If it's tight curls then it could potentially turn into an afro-like state. If it's softer curls it may look like something from the eighties, (again not very desirable). Ok. I'm totally with you with the really curly hair, layers and all. I too wanted to try something different. So I DID!

I cut it short, well to about my shoulders. I thinned it out and cut it all one length and put blonde hi-lights in it. I LOVE it. The lady straightened it and I just love it. It is soooo much easier to do. Which I didn't think it would be being that it usually takes forever to straigten because it is so damn curly.

I think you should not go so drastic unless your really wanting to go for a change. I did it and really recommend it. I feel like a different person and I feel like dressing up and all the time now. It's perfect for summer and so easy to take care of now because it is shorter and I straighten it.

If your hair is basically straight or just a little wavy, I'd keep the layers and get it shortened to about 1 inch or so below the jawline. Then ask them to do a texturizing cut on the ends at all the layers.

That way you can roll it if you want a curly look or you can wear it straight and put some texturizing wax or gel on the ends of your hair and twist them so they will be light and flippy--flirty. Sort of a messy, natural look.

If your hair happens to be really wavy or curly, I'd keep it a longer longer that what I suggested above and roll the layers to get a more full soft look.

I just had a great thought. Headbands are really big right now. So how about a pretty coordinating headband with some rhinestones in it. Then have someone do spiral curls thru the bottom of your hair. If you want, they could then pin those up so it looks like you have long hair pinned up. I think it would be awesome even if you left it down.
