Well if you have shorter (shoulder length) hair you won't be able to get really long layers. Just tell your hairdresser that you want layers but you still need to be able to pull your hair back. she will fiqure a way to do it.

i have short hair and i can't get it up in a pon y tail i just get this little thing of hair in a hair ty:P but yeah any ways get it cut and tye it up and bobby pin the rest up its a good look if you do a messy tye up with it kinda loose but serious its so much more exciting then a plain slicked pony:P

Get long layers and maybe shorter ones around your face that you can leave out with a pony tail. Use hair products when you pony tail your hair it will help keep your hair in place.
